We understand the apprehension that can accompany your first visit to a new doctor. That’s why we want to establish a positive, caring relationship from the very start…one based on mutual respect, trust and two-way communication.
It is for this purpose that an initial consultation is recommended before all surgeries, no matter how minor. Under certain circumstances, such as traveling from long distances, we can provide your initial consultation and surgery at the same appointment if your medical condition allows. Please notify us at the time your appointment is made of the need for same day surgical services so that we can send you a list of pre-operative instructions in the mail when possible.. During the consultation, your medical history will be reviewed and you will be examined to determine if you have any health problems that may affect your surgical treatment and the safe delivery of anesthesia. This initial visit enables you to be fully informed about what is involved in your surgery, anesthesia options and the results you can expect once your treatment is completed. Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
- Your surgical referral slip and X-rays if applicable
- A list of your medical conditions and hospitalizations
- A list of medications you are presently taking (.g. Heart and blood pressure medications., aspirin, blood thinners, diet pills, etc)
- If you have medical or dental insurance, bring your identification cards and the necessary completed forms.
Please alert the surgeon if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (.g. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc) at the time of your consultation.
All patients under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit, or legally they cannot been seen by Doctor Greer. If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays, you may request that they forward them to our office.
If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility. We will also discuss the estimated cost of your treatment and payment options during the consultation visit.
Surgery
At the time of your consultation, a list of pre-operative instructions will be given to you. Please do not eat or drink anything at least 6 hours prior to surgery. This is for your safety during anesthesia. If necessary, Doctor Greer will give you specific instructions on your normal prescribed medications on the day of surgery. You will also need a responsible adult to be present in our reception room while you undergo surgery and to also drive you home. Please wear comfortable clothing, including a short sleeved shirt.
